The name Cyclades was used by ancient Greek writers to describe the dense complex of small islands in the center of the Aegean Sea, which seem to form an imaginary circle around their sacred island and place of worship of Apollo, Delos.
These islands were the cradle of an important civilization, the so-called Cycladic civilization, which flourished during the 3rd millennium BC.
The most characteristic creation of Cycladic art during the Bronze Age is the marble figurines.
Most represent naked women, male musicians, warriors or hunters.
